Freshersgram Career Power-Up Challenge – July 10, 2025
LinkedIn is not just a digital resume — it’s your personal brand, networking hub, and job opportunity portal. But here's the truth: most freshers either don’t use LinkedIn at all or use it like Facebook.
If you want to stand out and get noticed by recruiters, you need a strong, complete, and well-optimized profile. And guess what? You don’t need to be an expert or experienced — you just need to be real, relevant, and ready.
Let’s dive into the exact steps to make your profile shine 🌟
✅ 1. Use a Professional Profile Photo
Your profile photo is the first impression. No selfies, no filters, and no group photos. Use a simple, clear headshot:
-
Smile, look confident
-
Plain background (or blur your room)
-
Dress like you would for an interview
-
Crop from the shoulders up
🛠Tip: You can use free tools like remove.bg or Canva to edit photos easily.
✅ 2. Add a Catchy Headline (More Than Just “Student”)
Your headline shows below your name — and it’s searchable! Don’t waste it by saying “Student at XYZ University.” Instead, say what you’re interested in or skilled at.
Examples:
-
Aspiring Data Analyst | Python & Excel | B.Sc. Graduate 2025
-
Marketing Enthusiast | Canva & Social Media | Open to Internships
-
CS Undergrad | Web Development | Learning ReactJS
Tip: Use keywords related to your dream job or skill!
✅ 3. Use a Custom Background Banner
The default LinkedIn banner is boring. Upload a custom one that reflects your field or career goals.
You can create one using Canva with a clean design, your name, and a tagline.
✅ 4. Write a Compelling “About” Section (Summary)
Your “About” section is like your personal pitch. It should:
-
Be written in first person (I am...)
-
Mention your background, interests, and goals
-
Highlight any certifications or projects
-
Be 3–5 sentences long
Example:
I’m a BBA student passionate about digital marketing and branding. I’ve completed Google’s Digital Marketing Certification and helped manage my college’s event pages on Instagram. I’m currently learning SEO and looking for internship opportunities to grow in this field.
✅ 5. Fill Out Your Education Section
Mention your college, degree, years of study, and achievements. Also add:
-
Relevant coursework
-
Projects or seminars
-
Clubs or leadership roles
This helps recruiters understand your academic foundation.
✅ 6. Add Skills (Minimum 10!)
LinkedIn allows you to list up to 50 skills. Start with at least 10 that match your interests.
🛠Tip: Look at job descriptions in your field and copy the most common skill keywords.
Examples by field:
-
Tech: Python, HTML, JavaScript, SQL, Git
-
Marketing: Canva, SEO, Google Analytics, Copywriting
-
Finance: Excel, Financial Modeling, Power BI
-
HR/Admin: MS Office, Communication, Recruitment
✅ 7. Add Certifications and Courses
Have you done any online course from:
-
Coursera
-
Google Career Certificates
-
Internshala
-
Skill India
-
YouTube crash courses?
Add them under the Licenses & Certifications section. Even short courses show you’re proactive.
✅ 8. Get Endorsements & Recommendations
Ask 2–3 college friends or teachers to endorse your skills. You can also write a short recommendation for them — they’ll usually return the favor.
Endorsements build trust, even if you’re a fresher.
✅ 9. Follow Companies, Join Groups & Be Active
Follow:
-
Companies you want to work with
-
Industry leaders
-
Career pages like Freshersgram, Internshala, LinkedIn News
Join LinkedIn Groups (e.g., “Jobs for Freshers in India,” “Marketing Internships”) and participate in discussions occasionally.
✅ 10. Turn On “Open to Work”
Go to your profile → Click “Open to” → “Finding a new job”
Mention the roles you’re looking for (e.g., “Internship,” “Entry-Level Developer”) — this helps recruiters find you!
You can make it visible to recruiters only or show the green #OpenToWork banner.
📌 BONUS: Things to Avoid
🚫 Don’t leave your profile incomplete
🚫 Don’t beg recruiters in DMs (we’ll cover how to message tomorrow!)
🚫 Don’t lie about skills or experience
🚫 Don’t ignore LinkedIn — it’s more powerful than you think!
👇 Summary
Even if you’re just starting your career, a good LinkedIn profile can:
-
Get you noticed by recruiters
-
Help you connect with industry professionals
-
Bring internship and freelance opportunities directly to your inbox
You don’t need years of experience. You just need to show that you’re curious, skilled, and ready to grow. So update your LinkedIn today — your future employer might already be scrolling! 😉
